An unnamed viewer (suspicious) sent a picture to a T.V. station that he claimed was taken by an automated game camera set up in Berwick, a small town in coastal Louisiana. He went on to claim that the camera that took it, along with the deer stand it was mounted to, were destroyed, presumably by the creature in the photograph.  However, the camera's SD card remained intact and contained the submitted photo. Here is the video of resulting news story:

According to Movieweb and i09, a science fiction news site that is part of the Gawker network, the image first appeared on the Facebook page of hunting equipment supplier Wildgame Innovations before making its way into the mainstream media.

i09 suggested that this was likely a viral marketing campaign for the upcoming J. J. Abrams film Super 8. They reported that this information came from inside sources close to the movie and is supported by this mundane video with a child describing her experience as an extra in the film where she encountered a zombie. This is certainly plausible but inconclusive.

Whether or not this is a sophisticated viral marketing campaign or a hunter's prank, it's hard to know. It is pretty safe to say however, that the image is certainly part of a hoax. Blogger J. W. Siegel gives a nice review of the image and the associated data to show that the image is the result of digital editing with Photoshop.

As usual, fun but fake.
